LACES, LEGGINGS
This Commercial Item Description is authorized for use in preference to MIL-L-396E (SA).
1. ABSTRACT
1.1 Scope. This description covers a white tubular braided cotton lace used as a closure for leggings worn by Navy personnel.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Laces. The laces shall be 100% cotton, bleached white, tubular braided round without a core, tipped on one end. The laces shall be 30 to 31 inches long, 5/64 to 7/64 inch in diameter, and weight 21-24 ounces per gross. The breaking strength shall be a minimum of 70 pounds, when tested according to Test Method 7102 of FED-STD-191. The lace shall be smoothly finished and polished. The starch and protein content including chloroform soluble and water soluble material of the finished laces, shall not exceed 7.0%, when tested according to Test Method 2611 of FED-STD-191.
2.2 Lace tip. The lace tip shall be a transparent and colorless cellulose acetate or cellulose butyrate sheeting, with a thickness of not less than 0.0010 inch nor more than 0.013 inch. The tip shall be firmly attached and secured having a minimum gripping strength of 18 pounds. The end of the tip and braid shall be evenly aligned. The tip shall finish 3/4 (±1/16) inch in length.
