COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SAFETY PIN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description (CID), in lieu of FF-P-416.
1. SCOPE.
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers corrosion resistant metal safety pins.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1. Classification. The safety pins shall be of the following sizes, as specified (see 7.3).
Size 1 – Small, 1-1/16 inches (2.7 cm) long
Size 2 – Medium, 1-1/2 inches (3.8 cm) long
Size 3 – Large, 2 inches (5.1 cm) long
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1. Standard commercial product. The safety pins shall, as a minimum, be in accordance with the requirements of this commercial item description and shall be the manufacturers standard commercial product except for any changes necessary to conform to this commercial item description. A standard commercial product is a product which has been sold or is currently offered for sale on the commercial market through advertisements, manufacturer’s catalogs, or brochures, and represents the latest production model.
3.2. Design and Construction. The safety pins shall be fabricated from spring tempered corrosion-resistant steel wire, tin-plated steel wire, nickel-plated steel wire, or nickel-plated brass wire. The spring shall be formed by one-half turns of the wire. The free end of the pin shall gradually taper to a sharp point. The cap of the pin shall permit easy closing and opening from either side of the cap, but shall prevent accidental opening by the spring force within the cap. The length and minimum wire diameter
